Ah mornings. It's a fresh day, a new chance to accomplish something, or better yet - a time to hit the snooze button on your alarm until you've only got twenty minutes to get to work.
Ah mornings. It's a fresh day, a new chance to accomplish something, or better yet - a time to hit the snooze button on your alarm until you've only got twenty minutes to get to work.
While most of us would not consider ourselves to be a morning person, you don't have to dread mornings. How you start your morning often determines how your day is going to go so adopting some of these healthy morning habits can completely change your outlook and can improve your day to day life:
1. Hydrate With a Glass of Water
If you've managed to seemingly impossible task of sleeping eight hours as an adult, then there's a good chance you're a little dehydrated. Leaving a glass of water by your nightstand for you to drink in the morning is a great way to instantly rehydrate yourself and to get your metabolism and body moving.
2. Stretch & Exercise
The benefits of yoga in the morning are widely known, but even if you don't like yoga, taking five minutes to stretch can ease stiffness and improve your flexibility throughout the day.
A quick run or weight lifting session before work to get your heart rate up has been shown to increase energy levels, improve productivity, and is a great way to clear your mind before work. Plus if you're a runner, there's the serene view of beautiful morning sunrises.
3. Eat a Full Protein-Rich Breakfast
A shocking number of adults don't eat breakfast regularly, which is counterproductive and often causes unhealthy snack binges and unhealthy lunch decisions.
The best breakfast, especially after a workout, is protein rich (think eggs, bacon, etc.) with some vegetables like onions and peppers. Throw in a delicious moringa smoothie using our organic moringa powder or a cup of moringa tea and you've got a nutrient dense energy booster to keep you alert, awake, and feeling great all day long.
#4. Take a Hot Shower
Showering in the morning has therapeutic effects, and can help calm and ease your mind. A morning shower also helps to improve alertness and gives you a "fresh" feeling about yourself.
Plus, Bob in accounting and Becky in HR really don't want to smell you after a sweaty run, so do everyone a favor by showering.
#5. Avoid Technology if Possible
If you're someone who wakes up and immediately checks your phone or computer, you're doing yourself a disservice. Instantly staring at a screen fills your mind with multiple things to think about, when in reality, mornings should give you a time to relax and keep your mind at east before work.
Put down the phone and enjoy time with your kids and/or spouse and you'll find mornings can be just a bit more enjoyable.
Mornings Don't Have to Stink Anymore
Incorporating just a few of these habits can make mornings stink just a little less. The next time you think about hitting that snooze button, get up and make yourself breakfast after a short morning run. I bet you'll feel better and realize you actually can look forward to mornings instead of dreading them.
